I’m in Business 2.0

Filed under: Personal | 5 Comments

Brian tells me the issue is out, so I might as well announce it–I’m profiled in this month’s Business 2.0 magazine [sub req.]. It’s something I am very proud of and never thought would happen at my age. The article is in a dream jobs section (they profiled 6 people I think) and is because of my success with Google AdSense at MobileTracker.

I have never been interviewed by a magazine…. They are a lot more detailed and not nearly as pressed for time. It was refreshing (I am coming from a 24-hour news cycle where speed is everything). Would love for it to happen with some regularity.

As far as the site goes, October looks like it will break all records, both in traffic and in revenue. I have high hopes for the future.

Update: Once I snag a copy of the magazine, I’ll post the code to view it online. I haven’t seen the actual issue yet (the photo that they took for it didn’t make it online, so I’m excited).

Mobile Drudge gets some users

Via the server logs I have seen a few people starting to use my DrudgeReport Mobile page. I use it fairly often, but it’s a pain to load the images.

Does anyone out there know a way for the server to auto-resize the images down (Opera makes them smaller but the phone loads the full image prior to this). I simply do not know how. Ideally the images could be resized down by a factor of at least 2, saving 75% of file space. It would probably make sense to cache these images.

This is a free page that probably breaks copyright somehow, so I’m not sure I am willing to pay for the code. But if you are willing to let me know how, or even write it, I’ll give you credit.

The great orator

Just to strive for some sort of eqaulity, here’s a clip from the debate on Friday. This is John Kerry pulling a Bush.

Here’s my rough translation:

“And I believe that if we have the option, that scientists tell us we do, of curing Parkinsons, curing Diabetes, curing uhh, uhh, uh, a a a you know some kind of a uh uh of uh uh…”

Shocking that both candidates are human and can have brain farts.

(I am sure that anytime JK stumbles over words it’s because he’s too worried about the current policies of the Bush admisistration to think… Or maybe it was another effect from that flag football game. I am sure the PR flacks have some excuse.)

Amazing hosting deal

Dreamhost is celebrating 7-years of being a webhost by giving away hosting for 77¢ a month. It’s their lower plan (normally $9.95 a month) but comes with 800MB of storage and 40GB of bandwidth. You can even host 3 domains off the plan.

I currently host MobileTracker with Dreamhost, but I am changing to Pair in the very near future. The reason for the change is I like Pair’s customer support more (I can call them). Pair costs more though, so it makes sense.

[thanks Chris]

Say Anything – Say Anything Is A Real Boy

Finally picked up the Say AnythingSay Anything Is A Real Boy CD today. It is very creative, melodic, rock. Pretty laid back, sort of reminds me of Minus The Bear. Before today I had been jamming out to a few of the songs that they give away, but have been waiting until BestBuy had a copy.

Here’s the first song:

It starts off with some humor, but is just a great song overall. The whole CD is worth a listen. I heard a rumor that the singer checked into a psych hospital after finishing the CD, it must have taken a lot out of him. They are on tour now so I guess he got over it.

I don’t think the CD has sold well, so if you like the song and see it in the store show some support (it was $11 at BestBuy). It is on Doghouse Records (All American Rejects, My Hotel Year, etc).

Congrats Ev! You deserve it.

I really wish I was at Web 2.0, Jeremy has some great coverage. So does Jason.

Om says SixApart got more cash. Good to know the lights will stay on.

Google is going print. This is a huge win for indie authors (especially if combined with Amazon.com).

Tribe update

Wow I missed this one, Tribe is now using a Craigslist type design. Where have I been (probably at MySpace…)?!

I confess

… To wearing the same distinctive shirt two days in a row because I knew I wouldn’t see any of the same people and could get away with it. Sad and yet extremely clever at the same time. It worked out, I got compliments both days.
