Time flying
Anyone else think that time is just flying? We’re looking at Thanksgiving on the radar… The end of the semester. 2005. I suppose this is a good thing, the good times move along faster than the bad.

TypePad updated to be more like Blogger–the web interface to post is now WYSIWYG. Some JavaScript wizardry makes a standard HTML text area look like Word. Very slick.
Let’s try the built-in spel checkr (it didn’t recognize TypePad, heh). I don’t like the spell checker as much as Gmail’s, because it opens a new window.
Wow! Check out that stunning youth vote that the internet drove to the polls! I couldn’t help but chuckle at the hype this cycle. Sorry Puff Daddy/MTV/RockTheVote, the kids didn’t buy it. Not all young people are that easy to train (besides the ones that bought Ashlee Simpson’s CD…).
Besides GW winning, the GOP keept the Senate and the House. A great day all around.
I think the history books will be looking at the role of participatory journalism and its failure to really accomplish anything. Sure, there were a lot of page views, money raised and curse words uttered… But did it really make a difference? The Dems owned the internet scene and now may not even have a Senate minority leader.
We’ll have a week or two of more media hype, but it should be interesting.
…. Was with a LCD touch screen panel. Oh how that will sound outdated when I tell my grand children (“What?! No retina scan? But how did they know it was you grandpa?”). The UI was really great, no ambiguity in who I voted for.
If I ever meet the guy who started the recent rolex spam craze, God help me. They seem to sneak through Spam Sieve without much trouble.
I woke up this morning to an amazing crowd outside:
1) At the end of the street there are two polling places, both full of people waiting to vote (before work, cars parked everywhere, etc). It has calmed down now and I am about ready to walk down there.
2) Our entire street is populated by Mexican workers laying fiber optic cables. There was a man chest deep in my front yard. They work so fast–it is amazing. I would love to spend a day with them and see how it all works (from the tagging to the digging to the laying to the connecting).
Thanks to Google I have thousands of people reading about Eminem’s lip sync stunt the other day. Some interesting comments from both fans and haters. Check it out. I like when nice discussions happen.
Tons of work and a lot of tweaks compiled to make the new National Assosiation of Photoshop Professionals Member’s Gallery. It is launching today and is the largest PHP project I have ever done. It seemed simple at first, but it quickly got more complex (it’s still pretty simple for non-members).
If you’re a NAPP member (it’s $99 a year and is well worth it) you can upload up to 24 images that showcase your work. If you’re not a member you can at least look at all the images and hire someone cool.
I’m sure there are still some bugs, and by the time you read this (I programmed it, positive thinking in action) it could very well be overloaded, but it has turned out really great. In a few days it will be even better.
I have new respect for Flickr. And just in case you’re wondering, I am not actively seeking development contracts–I go back a long way with the NAPP and gave them time I didn’t have.
I was on with Mack over at Blogosphere Radio. The quality seems pretty decent considering I was on via my cell phone (forgot to turn off forwarding from my Vonage account). There are a lot of awkward “Dan Rather” esque pauses in the interview as per my style. Give it a listen!
My fav quote had to do with the PepsiGate scandal from earlier this year to which I quipped, “[Citing some of the hatemail] ‘Why are you giving away this trick? You should die.’ It was fascinating. They take their soda a lot more seriously than me.” Zing.
Did anyone else think Eminem wasn’t really live during his first song on SNL? He was performing the politically charged song Mosh. He pulled the mic down a few times but his voice kept rapping. The whole time sounding CD quality. I was waiting for him to diss Ashlee, but he never did. Does anyone have the video?
What gives SNL… Two in a row!?
Update: A local morning show posted the video… Pretty freaking obvious.
