Jimmy Eat World, Futures

Jimmy Eat World’s Futures has a lot more energy than Bleed American, but since I liked the upbeat songs on Bleed American most, this is a great thing. These guys launched the whole emo rock scene, and are back to show the newcomers how it’s down.

Here’s one of my favorite songs from the release. I expect it to go platinum pretty quickly (quick for a hipster rock band, not Britney-quick). I know I’ll pick it up when it officially launches in October–you should too.

Actually, Jimmy Eat World was a power pop band and when the emo rock scene started getting huge rumor has it an A&R guy gave them a copy of a Christie Front Drive album (who had refused to sign to a major) and said “write some songs like this and we’ll sign you.” They did.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Jimmy Eat World and all that, but they certainly didn’t launch the emo rock scene, more like piggybacked on it.

Damn… good track. I’ll of course need the rest of the album from you :p

I know they didn’t create the genre, but they put it into the mainstream. They are the only band in the genre that I can think of that has gone platinum. Also had the most radio play.

Sean: You are totally mistaken in believing this rumor. Actually, JEW did a split 7″ with Christie Front Drive. The aforementioned A&R guy checked CFD out live, only chatted briefly with them afterward, during which convo they mentioned that they were doing a split with Jimmy Eat World. He checked out that split, and the rest is history. As for launching the “emo scene” they never have wanted that association in the first place, and they certainly haven’t piggybacked–that, to me, is like saying that Nirvana piggybacked the “grunge” scene. What about Mudhoney? Sorry, there is no way to guage that kind of thing. Honestly, it shouldnt matter.
